happily home

we’re all feeling a little under the weather here. but, what better excuse to just stay home and work on some little projects?

here are some links to what we’ve got on the list for this week:

always a great source for free patterns, i can’t wait to make a few of these garlands for the house.

since finishing my tea leaves cardigan (more on that soon), i’ve purchased this pattern for my next “me” knit.

the kids have already made people, birds, birds and birds…and now they’ve got their sights set on this project. i have some snow-looking glitter in my stash that the kids are itching to use. we’ll try to make a little winter village, and maybe find some other projects to add to it for a more life-like feel. perhaps some carolers…

i don’t know when i can fit this in, but just looking through these images is so inspiring.

old and new

we live with old things. our little old house is full of other people’s cast-off items. our clothes, dishes and toys come from area thrift shops or are made by me or cris.  mostly, this serves us very well. we love the ”hunt” for things on our ebbing shopping list, and the satisfaction of knowing we spent a dollar to save something from the landfill and give it a second life is important. however, there are times when getting something that’s really, truly new is okay for us. this weekend, i took the kids to town to pick out something new. wyatt selected a train car and isabelle picked out a playmobile kitchen set. it was so much fun to unwrap those special toys and watch them merge with the old ones. my children played for hours  and hours, making up new story lines and ideas to welcome their new toys home. i sat on the couch a knit a little. hey, it’s about time!
