we don’t need electricity!

we recently had a crazy windstorm that took trees down all over the place. most of the county was out of power for three days, us included. thankfully we keep a healthy supply of candles at our house because we had to follow through with our plans for the evening. our friends (the ones that moved to south africa a couple of years ago) were back in the states for a couple of weeks. we had them all to ourselves on wednesday night, and what better “reunion” than to play our most favorite game that they taught us…

dearest anne…always inspiring me with her crazy knitting. this year? beaded lace shawls as christmas presents for the women in her family. yeah…that’s not hard to live up to!

cris and andrew: trying to block out all of the knitting talk that happens over the course of a couple games.

and of course, some actual knitting. we love you anne and andrew!

outside…

…the snow is falling and my children are calling, “mom! pull us!”

aah…the simple and direct communication of children. i did pull them down the road (no, not in the road) to their favorite sledding hill. we spent a lovely morning sledding, making snow angles, catching snowflakes and shoveling. i’d almost forgotten how much i love fresh snow until we were out there playing. the snow flakes were huge and fluffy and the snow was really slippery, which allowed the kids to go a little faster down the hill. we all went crooked quite a few times; wyatt had to roll off of his sled once because he was headed straight for a fence post and i pushed the kids heads down so we could all “duck” under the fence. i guess that just adds to the excitement of sledding – will i or won’t i crash…?

the snow-infused sky made for that bluish kind of light. the camera really picked it up:

their knits

i wish i was posting to say that i’d finished a couple of sweaters for the kids…but alas, i have not. i have, however, knit two little short-sleeved sweaters for my waldorf dolls.

now, moving onto their quilts…
