where we’ve been

well, it was a postless week around here. i blame it on the snow. have you gotten any? it is deep, fluffy and sparkling in the sunlight! we’ve been snowshoeing, sledding and fort building. we also took a great walk in the woods. when we dropped down over a hill and couldn’t see the house, isabelle worried we were lost. it was a great opportunity for a lesson in looking at the sun and following a ridge line (they run north/south). i also ran ahead and hid behind a tree and let the kids “track” me. then they took turns doing the same. we found rabbit tracks, coyote tracks and even a few deer tracks.

just like my summer excuse, when the outdoors is so beautiful, it’s really hard for me to come inside and sit at the computer…but on monday, i’ll be back with some fun knitting and sewing projects i’ve been working on…see you then!

back to “normal”

this past week has brought our family back to “normal.” the big family gatherings and gift exchanges over, we’ve all happily settled into the rhythm of our usual days. playing, baking,  skating, cleaning, painting, reading, snowshoeing, sledding, KNITTING, and quiet time together. the kids and i took a nice walk in the woods with their nana. we examined animal tracks, scat and tree bark, climbed trees, listened to the crow calls cutting through the silence and just enjoyed the combination of snow and sun. i am so thankful for the natural world around us.

morning walk

we took a morning walk for a change of pace. i know we all get plenty of outdoor time, but there is something so mysterious and almost seceret about walking quietly through a still morning. frost on the grass. pink and yellow coming over the mountain. birds silent overhead. feeling both warm and cold. happy children.

back at home, after breakfast dishes were cleared away, we sat down at the kitchen table to carve. wyatt sketched out two designs and we each carved one.

(thank you for this picture, isabelle)

there is no joy quite the same as the one felt when your children take an interest in one of your own passions…
