new knit

here it is: the first of three hats on my knitting roster for this fall. i’ve knit this twice before (one for my husband and one for my brother) in black, but switched to green for wyatt since it is his favorite color. the wool is a little itchy, so i did an inside brim of cotton with his name knit into it. it may be 88 degrees out today, but that boy is wearing his new green pirate hat! i love his enthusiasm!

more kitchen madness part 1: the aquisition

of course my tomatoes were ready to be processed on the hottest day of the week. of course i had to go pick apples to can apple pie filling this week. ugh. the kids and i enjoyed a wonderful morning of picking and picknicking followed by a sweltering afternoon of canning and baking. not the best plan ever, but the fruits of our labors were well worth the effort!

lewey lake

we spent the weekend camping with my parents on lewey lake, tucked into the western side of new york’s adirondack mountains. there was so much “nothingness” to be done that we all felt both relaxed and exhausted by the end of the weekend. it was, however, a wonderful mini-vacation from home.

immediately uppon arrival, isabelle went to the water (of course).

we were swarmed by the ducks. cris fed them bread from his mouth!

we played at the beach when it was cold as well as when it was hot!

wyatt fished…while isabelle pouted.

we read, played in the woods, built this fairy house and campfire, made s’mores, went for walks and bounced around the tent. and yes, i even finished a knitting project!
