berry patch

nothing really says “summer is here” like that first trip to the berry patch. this year, our opening day was at the charlotte berry farm. organized by our fearless outdoor adventure group leader, we had a wonderful day of picking, tasting, playing and hanging out. here’s the proof:

i think all of the ladies that went picking made freezer jam last night. but for me, the question remains: what will i do with all of these berries?

goshen dam

i invited my parents and my little brother to go fishing with me and the kids this weekend. we went to a great spot called goshen dam. there’s shallow water for the kids to play in, deep water for decent fish (so i remember, though we couldn’t prove it  yesterday), and plenty of room on shore for campfires, exploring and running around.

this pumpkin-seed was the first catch of the day. we caught a few of them, as well as some baby trout. no trophies today, but the kids had so much fun! wyatt wanted to grill this one on the fire…maybe next time, wyatt!

it’s back!

i’ve been feeling so uninspired lately. i’ve actually found myself with alone time and nothing to do! i mean, nothing creative to do…there’s always laundry, mopping, and a mountain of dishes. anyway, my crafting mojo is back! yesterday, with a few hours of alone time at home, my work all done, i got inspired. i just went downstairs and let my materials lead me. this is where we went:

i made a dress for isabelle out of vintage barque cloth. getting it on/off is made possible by a single snap in the back of the bodice.

i finished two little gathered purses with lace trim.

a flower-adorned headband for me

and i got a decent start on this project:

i scored a huge bag (one of those plastic zipper bags that duvet covers come in) full of wool felt. i pulled out the white piece, got some fabric scraps, and started stitching. i’ve decided it should be the front of a bag. it’s going to be a horizontal rectangle with a red polka dot lining. i’m wishing i had some red or orange leather handles to go on it. maybe i’ll check etsy… alright, back to the stitching!
