town beach

my dear friend organized a beach gathering yesterday. it was our first taste of sand this year, a reminder of what we love in the summer and how much packing it can sometimes take to make a full day of it. (i didn’t have enough food, or i think we could’ve stayed through dinner!)

we spent the morning and early afternoon digging, splashing, scooping, lounging, laughing and enjoying. i didn’t want to leave!

the little town beach is perfect for the kids. it’s a perfect size, with some fun spots for exploring, but with natural limitations. the water is shallow and cold. the sand fine and warm. bliss.

the snacks went quickly:

the day was wonderful!

contrast

i’m still on the lace/doily kick. this time i pulled out some precious scraps of washed wool leftover from the kids’ pants. i made a few zippered pouches and a pair of wrist warmers for myself. they’re a little out there. i really love them…it’s the contrast of the dark, heavy wool and the delicate, white lace:

dinner

a rare happening for us is takeout. we just don’t do it. part money, part wondering what we’re really eating, i suppose. but tonight we decided to get a little crazy. chinese at marble works is never a bad idea:
