spring is for sewing (or, sewing is for spring…)

i think i’m ready to start a new knitting project. it’s been a nice break since finishing my mohter’s tea leaves sweater, filled with sewing, enjoying the warm weather, and a little bit of tattooing (don’t worry, just henna).

cris-henna

cris let me experiment on him. i tried cliping the corner of a plastic bag, but it wasn’t exact enough. i think a frosting bag (whatever they’re called) might be better. we’ll see…

the sewing has been a mix of work and pleasure. i’m starting to feel a bit overwhelmed. i’ve got the kids, the old job, the new job starting, the house planning (YES! i said house planning! foundation and logging for the framing!!!!!!!!!!!!!), and now my website, the local retailers (two that i am involved with right now), this year’s craft fairs, and newly added to the list, the farmer’s market. i’ve got aprons cut out, a new bag pattern cut out, crayon bunting rolls prototyped, print ideas to carve into blocks (did i mention cris and i are brainstorming a book?!), supplies to order to make more sandwich wraps (only 2 left!), and all my personal projects. placemats for the kids, cropped pants for summer, dresses for me, skirts for both of us girls, and so on… add to that the two raised beds i built in the back yard yesterday (i, not cris), the seeds ordered for the big garden…is there anytihng else?

but i will survive! i’ve made a chart of all my venues, projects, to-do’s, and supplies needed. the calendar is slowly being color-coded. i am breathing. life is grand!

rae’s spring top week

thinking of getting myself into another project…

…if i can pull myself away from dress making for a moment!

what time did you go to bed?

perhaps oddly, but not at our house, almost the first thing for cris to say to me in the morning is, “what time did you go to bed last night?” the question is typically asked after he has wandered into the kitchen where my latest creation hangs from the cubbord knob for all (yes, by all, i do mostly mean myself) to admire. this morning, my answer was, “eleven.” The question was prompted by this:

i bought this sweet thyme fabric on etsy (i don’t remember the seller info) and have been loving it all washed and folded in my fabric pile. but, enough is enough – last night i decided that i couldn’t go to bed before making it into a dress. i used the built by wendy dress book for the skirt and the bodice came from a quick sew pattern. i then followed wendy’s steps for construction and was finished in no time!

i had to take a picture last night, but the lack of natural light left something to be disired…

luckly it is so sunny and beautiful again today that i did get a great pic (the first one). now the big dilemma for today: sewing or sunshine? i’ll let the kids decide!
