is it too late for christmas thank you cards? – and a blue egg…

is it too late? i’m functioning under the premisesthat it’s better late than never. i was sort of waiting until i got my hands on some blank note cards. i thought i’d have the kids draw on each one and maybe write the first letters of their names, but that can sometimes be torture (for us andthem). instead, i’m using some rubber stamps i carved and colorbox inks.

and then the blue egg…our sweet chickens have been diligently taking turns with the egg laying. from six plump hens we can count on two eggs a day. not bad for winter, but down from six a day, it puts a damper on my sponge cake baking and egg gifting. but then, today, something beautiful was waiting in their house…a sweet, delicate BLUE egg! horray! our baby chick’s first egg!

when one of our barred rocks started brooding, we were given a couple of fertelized eggs from cris’s aunt so our hen wouldn’t go crazy. when the little chick hatched we had so much fun watching the mama and her baby. as the chick grew into henolescence (adolescence) she had a hard time fitting in. but now, they are all friends and our sweet baby is laying her own eggs! it feels like victory to me!

Cris’s Skull Hat

cris_skull_hatHere’s the hat I knit for Cris. It was only my 3rd try…the others didn’t pass his scrutiny. But finally, he is happy with his hat. It’s this hat with a few variations to make it special. Just like Cris.

amy butler’s LOVE

it feels like i have been waiting forever for my local fabric store to get this in…

amy_butler_love_fabricand finally, here it is! it is so fabulous – i don’t know if i will be able to cut into it. well, of course i will. but i am planning on making as few cuts as possible.heather_ross_quilt_squaresthis is what i am going to add it to. an amy butler/heater ross quilt that i started in the fall. random log cabin-ish squares of which there are 9. i have a master plan in my head, so we’ll see how it goes… but for now, i’m just going to admire that gorgeous stack of fabric!
